The premise is simple, but the results are impressive. Pune based T-Shirt Marketplace Startup “Unofficial Clothing“ is selling more than 1500 pieces per month. Started in 2016, “Unofficial Clothing” is having a sizeable amount of customer base and brand followers.
They are also introducing their offline presence with a string of kiosks, where the buyer can walk-in, touch and feel the t-shirt, choose the one he/ she chooses to go for and pay at the kiosk. They are also tying up with other clothing stores where the store can sell all the products with a tablet without investing any money into the inventory the t-shirt will be delivered very next day at the address. We are running a pilot project for Pune city only as of now once the operations are perfect we will be replicating the same in other cities.
“Unofficial Clothing”, is a Brand under “Abuse Lifestyle”, a company incorporated in 2013, by Mr Supreet Mangsule. An engineer by education, but Supreet always had entrepreneurship and leadership qualities from his college days.
We talked with The T-Shirt Man, Mr Supreet Mangsule, Founder & CEO of Abuse Lifestyle and we are confident that, his startup journey will make you excited.
From when did you start this entrepreneurship?
During my college years, I was constantly excited to build something of my own. In the third year of engineering my friend & I started an espresso joint “The Coffee Shop. The place where I reside, people, had not seen a coffee shop before they didn’t have any concept of what a coffee shop is so we set up one for them and the response from people was incredible. But in last year of engineering, we sold it to someone. That was a life-changing moment for me because at that moment I was confident that I wanted to be an entrepreneur.
I started Abuse Lifestyle with a single brand ABUSE in 2013, now we own brands like HIPPIE CULTURE, GENIO and POLYGON PRO in our portfolio each of which caters to a distinct set of customers. We have also started a subsidiary company PRINT MY TEE which deals in Bulk custom Printing and corporate gifting and merchandising.
People Involved in this business?
I started it in 2013, I single-handedly, handled the business till mid of 2015 and later my friend and classmate from engineering Mr Prashant Patil joined me, with whom I co-founded UNOFFICIAL CLOTHING in 2016.
What was stopping you from becoming an entrepreneur?
Nothing held me from becoming an entrepreneur somewhere deep down in my heart I always realized that I wanted to be an entrepreneur but I was not sure what I wanted to do but the book “How I Braved Anu Aunty And Co-Founded A Million Dollar Company “by Varun Agarwal instigated me to work out something unique. I did face some obstacles in my early days as an entrepreneur. Being from a small town Indian middle-class family, it was undoubtedly challenging to convince my parents to know about the online commerce. I did not have the required resources to get started in my town and it was a very new thing for everybody. I had nobody to guide or help me so I learnt everything myself over the internet. There is an excellent quote from the movie Wolf Of Wall Street that answers this question “The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.”
What habits lead to your success?
Well, there are a lot of habits you require to cultivate to achieve the success. I would like to highlight a few. It is extremely important to be persistent and have patience you should know that nothing exceptional is going to happen for the next 5-6 years. You need to think big and plan for the long term. Take the risk and follow your gut instinct because it never lies. Wake up early and plan your day. I also believe that it is important to fail sometimes, failing shows that you are constantly trying to figure out something new and learn from it. Failure is the opportunity to begin again more wisely.
If you want to be successful you must respect one rule: NEVER LIE TO YOURSELF. Discipline, Time Management, Hard work, Consistency, Patience, Passion is the key ingredients to a successful life.
What makes you unique in competitors market?
We have all in-house. We design, develop, improve the product, do the marketing of the product and produce it ourselves entirely. We are not depending on any outsourced production house. With a continuous effort we have built up the complete ecosystem of designing, developing, manufacturing and supplying T-Shirts, so we can control the extravagant expense and can provide consumers with Unique and Fashionable Designs With Best Quality T-shirts in affordable cost. We also provide design consultation and the complete eco-system for designers who wish to establish their own brand. We have our existence online as well as offline.
What is your future plan for this startup?
The vision of ours is to make “Unofficial Clothing“; India’s No-1 T-shirt Shopping Destination by 2020.
We are working on two different models for the offline business, 1st will be a complete walk in store/kiosk where you can come see and can buy then and there. In the second one you can walk into our partnership stores where you can check out the samples of our products for sizes and quality, pay and place an order through the app at the store and we will deliver it to your doorstep within 48 hrs. We are in conversations with many T-Shirt brands and quickly around 100 more brands will be available on unofficial clothing for our shoppers to buy in all genre by the mid of 2018.
What is your inspirational quote?
“The Man Who Thinks He Can And The Man Who Thinks He Can’t Are Both Right”
Success is a mental game if you think you can then you will if you doubt yourself then you won’t.
Did you receive any funding from any Venture Capital?
No, but we are looking for angel investors who would be interested in the apparel and fashion industry.
How did you choose your First Employee?
I read this somewhere, doing a startup is a romantic decision. It is fun, exciting, and magical but on some days it really sucks though, you need a team of determined, crazy people with you on your ride and some luck. When all these factors come together, magic happens. And that’s the magic we are all chasing for. We look for people who are chasing that magic.
What message would you like to share for the new entrepreneur?
One thing I have observed a lot in first–time entrepreneurs, they work on different ideas every time they fail, which is why it is very difficult for them to succeed. They remain on the level 1 of every idea they execute. Instead of that if you work on the same idea in a different way for 1000 times you will ultimately be successful for sure. Thomas Edison invented the bulb after failing for about 10,000 times every time he tried to make the light bulb, and nothing else, focus on one thing and it will surely give the result. Many young Entrepreneurs who are working on their startup must know that running a startup is a 24 hrs job you should be constantly learning and upgrading yourself in order to succeed. Just because someone else is successful doing something doesn’t mean you will be successful in that, try to find out your own path. Never give up on your dream because of the time it will take to accomplish it; the time will pass anyway
“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” — Vince Lombardi
Unofficial Clothing does not want to remain only a marketplace for T-shirts, we want to empower the designer community with the perfect ecosystem to build their own niche brands. The company wants to expand a large portfolio of brands through its online & offline channels, and Supreet does not want to stay there either, he wishes to make and nurture entrepreneurs through his leadership excellence.Click here for reuse options!
