Google has announced the list of top search trends in India in 2017 and one can clearly see the nation’s obsession with films and cricket highlighted in their search topics too.
Here are the top 5 overall most searched topics by India in 2017.
#5 Half Girlfriend
Although Mohit Suri’s film Half Girlfriend starring Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor received a lot of negative reviews from critics on its release, the film created quite a stir online based on the fact that it was an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s popular novel by the same name also its catchy music and star cast. The topic was most searched particularly in the state of Bihar, where the story is based, making it the 5th most searched topic in India in 2017.
Number four on the list is also a film- Dangal. Based on a true story, the Amir Khan starrer earned critical acclaim as well as commercial success and gave us several memorable songs and scenes to cherish long after the film’s initial release.
#3 Live Cricket Score
Cricket is arguably the most popular sport in India and so it comes as no surprise that fans have looked up their team’s success online from time to time on match day, especially during crucial tournaments like the Champions Trophy 2017, making this the third most searched topic of the year.
#2 Indian Premier League
The second spot is also captured by a cricketing topic- IPL, where fans of the sport get to watch international bigwigs rub shoulders with local prodigies and play some of the most memorable matches ever witnessed. The glamour and controversy quotient of IPL is always high making it a constant hot topic on the internet that reaches far beyond the circle of interest of cricket lovers.
#1 Bahubali 2
S.S. Rajamouli’s Bahubali 2- The Conclusion, was a mega blockbuster making new sales records and bringing Tollywood popularity like it has never seen before. Given the eagerness with which people wanted to know why Katappa killed Bahubali, it really is no surprise that this movie was the most searched for topic of the year in India.
Google also released a video highlighting global search trends of 2017 with people Googling ways to help and show support to refugees, victims of terror attacks and natural disasters and giving an optimistic and humane conclusion to the year gone by.
